Malaysia Low Cost Medium Housing

In this article, the issues and challenges in implementing low medium cost housing in Malaysia under Malaysia’s government plan are deemed as somehow unsuccessful but have helped numerous Malaysians in owning a house. Issues arose for various reasons including those from the local authority, private developers and housing delivery system. There is no proper local authority regulation to evaluate the price of low medium cost housing in Kuala Lumpur. According to the data collected on table 5, most people who are working at Kuala Lumpur falls under the income category of less than RM1999 a month which is at 32. 7% and they can only afford to pay for a house below RM42,000. There is no possible way for the low income category to own a house in Kuala Lumpur because the price range to own a house in Kuala Lumpur is between RM42,000 to RM 85,000 per unit. Private developers are not interested in building low medium cost housing because of meager benefits like low profitability and no incentives are given. Clearly, the local authorities are not doing a very good job in monitoring the process of constructing new houses. Based on table 3, the planned and completed housing units are mostly not up to par. In fact, the Seventh Malaysia Plan reflected on only a 17. 1% of the targeted units of 110,000 low medium cost houses were completed. Also, there is a clear miss-match between demand and supply of low medium cost housing in Malaysia. Based on table 3, in the Seventh Malaysia Plan, the private sector built 268250 high cost houses more while 10402 low medium cost houses lesser. The primary demand was more on low medium cost houses, instead, more high cost houses were built. Clearly, there would be a vast imbalance on the demand and supply aspect. Also, there were no stern control to be hinged on by the housing delivery system. The low medium cost houses were always property speculators’ choice for them to make investments.

Business accounting Essay

M1: Analyse the cash flow problems a business might experience. For this task I will be writing to Alan Hall with an analysis of the problems in his cash flow statement. Dear Mr Hall,   I have made an analysis of your cash flow statement and am writing to you to inform you about all the problems I have identified Trends on the Net Cash Flow balances There are many trends within the cash flow statement such as the constant increase in advertising rates of  £175 up until September where it increases. It was wise to increase it more in Christmas, but this should’ve carried on into January as it is a new year and a time to sell off any stock that may have remained. The other problem I have identified within Alan halls cash flow statement is the Mortgage, which is fixed. This was wise to keep fixed as the business may not be able to afford any changes that may lead in an increase in cash outflow. I have identified a problem in thewages; the wages has increased twice In June. Both were increased in June, once by  £400 in the wages. The additional wages were increased by  £750, which makes a total of  £1050 increase in June which may be due to growth in employees. Most expenses are fixed such as rent, the expenses such as purchases and Advertisements are only rising immensely hence causing the closing balance to be negat ive despite the continuous rise in sales. The purchases are the main expenditure, which is huge area of concern, these needs to be looked into and controlled. The most common purchases are  £27,000 and the most expensive one  £44,000 hence needs to be looked into to find reasons why so changes can be made. There is a lump sum of  £9000 in the month of March, from a vehicle that was purchased. This lump sum causes the March closing balance to be a negative balance of  £ -2,645 causing the cash flow to have a bank overdraft. Negative Closing balances The closing balances were decent and positive until April where the closing balance became - £1,654. The reason for this may be the decrease in sales by  £2520 in March, despite there being an extra inflow from the bank and  savings of  £8000. The reason of there being a negative closing balance must be from the lump sum of  £9000 outflow, which was due to a vehicle purchase. The negative closing balance continues into the month of May despite there being a increase of  £6300 on sales, the negative closing balance remains due to the rise in purchases of  £4500. The negative closing balance becomes constant throughout the whole year and only gets higher despite the sales rising due to the expenses. The highest negative closing balance is in October of - £12730 despite there being high sales in September. The reason for this was again the increase in outflow of  £5760.

Food Inc. Case Study Essay

1. How has technology been applied to the food production process? Give/describe at least 3 examples. In the last 50 years, technology has completely changed the way we eat. When we think about farming, we think red barns, green grass, free-roaming animals, etc. Farming, now-a-days, is far different than the image the industry has lead us to believe. Farming has become a highly industrialized and mechanized business. The reality is our food is no longer coming from farms; it’s coming off assembly lines in factories, just like automobiles. Due to the high demand for certain types of foods, technology has allowed us to change the way we grow our food. Through genetic engineering, scientists have been able to introduce genetically modified organisms (GMO’s) into the food system to help with the shortage of food. Take for instance, the chicken. In 1950, it took farmers 70 days to raise a chicken. Now, it takes half the time, only 48 days. Not only can farmers grow chickens faster, they can grow them to be bigger. To meet the needs of consumers’ preferences for white meat, scientists made specific changes to the chickens’ DNA that made it possible to redesign the chicken to have larger breasts (Wikipedia.org). Another area where technology was applied to our food production process was through crops. In the 1930’s scientists developed a hybrid seed for corn, this hybrid had stronger stalks that resisted being blown over and it allowed farmers to plant the crop closer together (Food, Inc. Discussion Guide). Resulting in higher yields, â€Å"100 years ago a farmer in America could grow maybe 20 bushels of corn on an acre. Today, 200 bushels is no problem† (Food, Inc.). With the surplus of corn, scientists were able to develop more uses for it. A couple of examples include corn-based ethanol fuel, high-fructose corn syrup, maltodextrin, etc. Even though the technological advances mentioned above are astounding, one can’t help but wonder how these changes are aff ecting society. 2. How has business influenced government in the agricultural / food industry? Give at least 3 examples from the documentary. Monsanto has influenced government in many ways when it comes to the agricultural / food industry. Michael Pallon, an American author / journalist / activist, states â€Å"There has been this revolving door between Monsanto’s corporate offices and the various regulatory and judicial bodies that have made the  key decisions.† (Food, Inc.). For example, Justice Clarence Thomas (1991 – Present) was an attorney for Monsanto from 1976 – 1979 and wrote the majority of the opinion that refused farmers from cleaning and saving their own seed (Food, Inc.) Monsanto also had very close ties to the Bush and Clinton Administration. These ties eliminated the political debates over the extreme change in our food system. â€Å"For the last 25 years, our government has been dominated by the industries that it was meant to be regulating† (Food, Inc.). Take for example, Michael Taylor King, a Spaulding lawyer from 1994 – 1991. He advised his client, Monsanto, on GMF labeling. Then in 1991, he became the Deputy Commissioner for Policy and oversaw the FDA’s decision not to label GMF’s. As stated in the film, there is too much centralized power. Farmers are going into more and more debt with each year passing and what’s truly sad about the whole situation is they have no control over the businesses they worked tooth and nail for. 3. What is the FDA’s most current policy on genetically engineered foods? If you use a quote, then use two paragraphs or more to support the quote.  According to Noelle Cremers with the California Farm Bureau the FDA’s most current policy regarding genetically engineered foods is as follows, â€Å"And if I can point out the reason that we are concerned with labeling is it creates unnecessary fear in a consumer’s mind. Until the industry has an opportunity to educate why we want to use this technology and the value of the technology, we don’t feel that consumers just having a warning label will help them† (Food, Inc.). The problem with this is it violates consumer’s rights. As stated in the â€Å"consumer’s Magna Carta† that was spelled out by President John F. Kennedy, consumers have four basic rights, the right to be informed, the right to safety, the right to choose, and the right to be heard (Carroll and Buchholtz 392). The FDA is violating at least three of consumer’s rights by not labeling for GMO’s. Starting with the right to be informed, which â€Å"refers to the consumer’s right to know about a product, its use, and the cautions to be exercised while using it† (Carroll and Buchholtz 392). Without labeling, consumers have no clue what they are consuming, they are not informed. Next, the FDA is violating consumer’s right to safety which refers to concerns of  a product being dangerous (Carroll and Buchholtz 392). Even though GMO’s were discovered in the 1970’s, approximately 40 years ago, there is little to no research proving these products are safe for us to consume. Are they trying to cover up the fact that they are dangerous? Lastly, they are not allowing consumers the right to choose. Without full disclosure of GMO’s, how can one make an accurate choice? As far as the right to be heard, the FDA is hearing consumer’s desires and grievances towards the labeling of GMO’s, they’re just not listening. 4. What evidence do you see in the documentary that business is taking a more proactive, socially responsible stance to food production? To prove it is possible for businesses to have a proactive, socially responsible stance in the way food is produced, the documentary focused on two companies, Polyface Farms and Stonyfield Farms. Joel Salatin, owner of Polyface Farms, is hitting the nail on the head when it comes to being a socially responsible business owner. He’s upholding his economic responsibility to be profitable. He may not be striving to have his food sold at Wal-Mart, but he is charging customer’s fair prices for the quality of food he is providing. Polyface Farms is being legally responsible by obeying all laws. Although, the United States Department of Agricultural did try shutting them down because their operations are open to the air and it is considered to be unsanitary. However, he had his workplace cultured at a local microbiology lab and the results averaged 133 colony forming units, where the cultures from stores averaged 3600 colony forming units. In microbiology, colony-forming unit (CFU) is an estimate of viable bacterial or fungal numbers. Unlike direct microscopic counts where all cells, dead and living, are counted, CFU estimates viable cells (Wikipedia.org). Lastly, Polyface farms is withholding there ethical standards high. Some could argue that killing animals for food is wrong, but that is a completely different subject. The company is showing respect to the planet, their workers, the animals, and their consumers. In the documentary Joel Salatin states, â€Å"I mean, a culture that just views a pig as a pile of protoplasmic inanimate structure to be manipulated by whatever creative design that humans can foist on that critter will probably view individuals within its community and other cultures in the community of  nations with the same type of disdain, disrespect and controlling-type mentality.† (Food, Inc.). That statement alone proves he is ethically responsible. The documentary also focused on Stonyfield Farms as a socially responsible company. Gary Hirschberg, the COO of Stonyfield Farms states, â€Å"When we started out, we were a seven-cow farm. We wanted to prove that business could be part of the solution to the globe’s environmental problems. At the same time we had to prove that we could be highly profitable† (Food, Inc.). Stonyfield is the third largest yogurt brand in America, and they are the most profitable, e.g. they’re being economically responsible. The company is proving to be ethically responsible by providing organic yogurt, quality products, to the consumers at a responsible price, and you can tell in the documentary that their animals are being treated with respect. The cows were roaming free and were very clean, the farm had red barns that were kept nicely, and the grass was green. More and more companies today, are sprinting into the organic business. They are starting to realize that consumers are waking up and seeing behind the veil the food industry has put up. Consumers want to be healthy, be respected as both consumers and worker, and they want to preserve our environment for future generations. Works Citied Carroll, Archie B., and Buchholtz, Ann K. International Accounting Standards Board Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

International Accounting Standards Board - Essay Example The IASC Foundation is managed by 22 Trustees. The Trustees include highly experienced public and private sector professionals who belong to various parts of the world (IASB, n.d.). The IASC was established in 1973. The goal of IASB is "to provide the world's integrating capital markets with a common language for financial reporting" (IASB, 2008). Main objectives of the IASB, as defined by IASC Foundation constitution, include the following (IAS Plus, 2009): As shown above, IASB is appointed by IASC Foundation (which is appointed by and reports to the Monitoring Board). ISAC Foundation also appoints other advisory bodies that advise IASB on various activities. These include Standards Advisory Council, Working Groups for Major Agenda Projects, and International Financial Reporting Interpretations Committee. IASB develops IFRS using a standard 'due process'. IASC can review the process of standards development during any/ all step(s). The main steps of the process are described below (IASC Foundation, 2006. pp. 8-13): 1. Setting the agenda: The agenda is set with a view to address needs of most of the users of financial statements; mainly the investors. Some factors which are considered include the relevance and reliability of information that can be provided to users, availability or pre-existing guidance on the topic and possible convergence, resource constraints and the expected quality of potential standard. 2. 2. Project planning: At this stage, it is decided whether to do the project alone or as a joint project with other standard setting bodies. The project team is identified, assembled and finalized during this stage of the due process. 3. Development and publication of a discussion paper: Although not mandatory, but IASB usually publish a discussion paper to seek public comments and suggestions on the topic, agenda, and the targets. The comments are analyzed to determine if any improvement can be made. A discussion paper is developed after preliminary research on the topic and similar standards. 4. Development and publication of an exposure draft: Exposure draft development and publication is a mandatory step in the process. The exposure draft is developed after extensive research and details the proposal, agenda, and recommendations for the standard. Once developed, it is published to obtain comments. The comments are then analyzed to make required modification in the standard,

Social Welfare and Policy II Final Assignment Essay

Social Welfare and Policy II Final Assignment - Essay Example (Blau & Abramovitz, 2007) According to me this assertion is rational because whenever a social worker attempts to help his clients in any of their problems, in addition to the particular issue he has to confront with many other social welfare policies of government. Each and every function of government is being regulated and implemented by certain policies of its own. Though policies are the guidelines for a social worker, on certain occasions they might hamper or prevent his free involvement in social issues. Blau and Abramowitz states that social policies pervade every aspect of social work practice. However much we as individuals try to help a client, our capacity to do so ultimately depends on the design of the programs, benefit or service (Blau & Abramovitz, p.4). The opinion of the writers is authentic and every service or action that comes under the concern of individuals or society embodies a social policy. For instance, we realize and experience the rights and responsibilities of citizenship such a s right to vote, the right to have access to resources, the right to participate in civic structures and the equality before the law all through various social policies of government (Carson, Dunbar & Chenhall D. 2007, p.232). The thoughts projected in the book ‘Dynamics of Social Welfare Policy’, have imbued me with new conception to pursue my career as a social worker. The primary notion I gathered from this learning is that professionalism rests on a systematic body of theory that convince a social worker about causes, effect and opinion for work with individuals, groups, families and communities (Blau & Abramovitz,p.179). Secondly, the real and practical social worker relies not only on social welfare policies but also heavily on the psychological theories of personality and human behavior. Learning such a book would definitely help a

Ergonomics and Human Factors Design Personal Statement

Ergonomics and Human Factors Design - Personal Statement Example While psychology is one of the areas covered by ergonomics, I want to study other subjects that have a close relation to the human body, mind and the cognitive system. Accordingly, I want to gain knowledge in areas such as human biology, anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and related subjects. After acquiring such knowledge, I will be confident enough to understand the mysteries behind the relation of human beings with each other.  Once I have acquired the knowledge of understanding the importance of such interaction, I wish to utilize such knowledge in the development of better and result oriented systems so that they become most user-friendly for the maximum benefit of humankind. The knowledge shall be applied to areas like tackling bigger challenges faced by the world currently. Ergonomics provides a platform to enhance the human experience through the use of available technology and other materials in modern times. This enables the researchers and designers in augmenting everyda y environments and objects intelligently with an aim of improving the quality of life in a significant manner.  My education curriculum includes attending a course in Public Relations of the Chinese Society Program at the University of Bristol. Currently, I am pursuing the International Foundation Program at the University of Bristol, with an aim to gain sufficient exposure to arts and humanities subjects. The course content involves highlighting the areas like psychosocial and socio-cultural issues, which can help me in understanding the desired human factors design course under the Ergonomics program. In addition, the course provides a better understanding of interpersonal communication skills, required to run any kind of business in the current global competitive scenario.

The relationship between Entrepreneurship and Economic Growth Coursework

The relationship between Entrepreneurship and Economic Growth - Coursework Example In the modern business world, an entrepreneur can be defined by a number of definitions based on past empirical analytics & researches - an innovator, a leader, a manager, owner of an enterprise, coordinator of economic resources, resource manager, provider of capital, improvement of service levels, enhanced image of the economy on a global platter, and so on. But above all, fundamentally an entrepreneur is the person who has the guts to start and run a business as per the ideas generated by innovations. Entrepreneurs impact the local economies by increasing the diversity, invoking competition, creating jobs, managing social empowerment & practicing Change Agentry, increasing tax revenues, improving existing products & services, etc. and hence overall value adding to the economic performance, productivity and internationalization of the nation. A simple model of the relationship between entrepreneurship and economic growth is presented in the figure below (Figure 1): Figure 1: A simple model showing relationship between Entrepreneurship and Regional Economic Growth (Source: Gleave, Bill Dr. University of Essex. 2007) Entrepreneurs are expected to generate new ideas by virtue of innovations which may comprise of: 1 (a) Introduction of a new product (b) Introduction of a new technology (c) Introduction of a new methodology of production (d) Opening a new business potential & market in the region which has remained untouched largely (e) Discovery of a new source of supply of raw materials, support & services (f) Building a new organization system with innovative business model (g) Create new profit opportunities These opportunities lead to overall... An innovative entrepreneur is expected to possess high-risk appetite when starting a venture. Intelligent entrepreneurs clearly understand the correlation between risk & uncertainty which can be calculated by applying known probabilities and impacts. Knowing the dynamics, the entrepreneurs shall take calculated risks into account to bear the uncertainty of production & trade – the payoff is the profit earned by the entrepreneur which forms the primary motive anyway. A venture capitalist plays the role of trusting the risk appetite of an entrepreneur and funding him/her to help in transitioning the ideas into action thus forming good performing start-ups. A country having an effective framework of capitalists (Banks, Financial Institutions, Private lenders, etc.) ensures better development of entrepreneurship thus boosting the economic growth. This paper critically evaluates the correlation between Entrepreneurship and Economic Growth and the corresponding factors prevalent in the region influencing this relationship both on the positive as well as negative sides. Also, this paper intends to look at what measures of entrepreneurship are being used and discover whether the measures are appropriate. 4 Bosma, Neils and Harding, Rebecca. Global Entrepreneurship Monitor – 2006 Summary Report. Global Entrepreneurship Research Consortium (GERA). 2007. The subsequent section presents research question proposed herewith in order to establish a clear direction to the evaluation of literature and the corresponding data.

Industrial Biotechnology Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Industrial Biotechnology - Essay Example Transgenic plants, like Bt corn and herbicide resistant soybeans, were designed to improve agronomic performance, although these are also used in biopharming (pharmaceuticals from plants). Transgenic animals are currently used to express drugs in milk. Biotechnological approaches have been used to enhance the yield and diversity of the important compounds amino acids, vitamins, antibiotics and biofuels. Amino acids Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Humans and animals alike can synthesize amino acids, except for eight that have to be supplemented by the diet. Aside from their roles in nutrition, amino acids are also used as food flavour enhancers, for medical uses such as transfusion of proteinaceous food and ammonia detoxification, and in the manufacture of synthetic raw materials in the chemical industry (Okafor, 2007). Globally, glutamic acid, lysine and methionine are produced in the highest amounts, although all amino acids can be and are being synthesized. The fla vour enhancer monosodium glutamate is the number one product in terms of tonnage (Demain, 2007). Okafor (2007) reviewed the different methods used to manufacture amino acids. Hydrolysis of high protein products like hair, keratin and feathers is the oldest means of manufacturing amino acids. However, this procedure is highly dependent on the amount of raw material that is available. Amino acids are also chemically synthesized, but the end-products are a mixture of D and L forms which necessitate an additional expensive step to produce the biologically active L-form. Fermentation of carbon and nitrogen materials through the action of different bacterial species is the most economical and feasible to large-scale process. Enzymatic process converts specific substrates to amino acids through specific enzyme catalysis. The most important method for microbiological production of amino acids is through direct fermentation and this is where biotechnological approaches have been utilized the most. The discovery that microorganisms like bacteria, moulds and yeast express amino acids was the stimulus for advancement in this field. Corynebacterium, Brevibacterium, Microbacterium and Arthrobacter are the most common bacterial genera employed for direct fermentation. To induce expression of amino acids, media and culture conditions are modified. However, bacteria will produce the amino acids only to a certain extent because they have this innate control of production to prevent toxic effects. Thus, bacteria have been engineered that do not have the control mechanisms for inhibiting amino acid production. Auxotrophic mutants have increased production of L-glutamic acid (Nakamura, et al., 2007; Asakura, et al., 2007). Regulatory mutants for amino acid production have also been developed. These mutants possess an enzyme that is insensitive to feedback inhibition, and thus continues to overproduce a certain amino acid. For example the bacterium Brevibacterium flavum was enginee red to be insensitive to increased lysine concentration which has an inhibitory effect on aspartate kinase activity (Fernandez-Gonzalez, et al., 1996). Aspartate kinase is the only system in the lysine biosynthesis pathway that is sensitive to increased lysine levels. Recombinant DNA technology has greatly enhanced the introduction of genes into current

Analyze Uzbekistans economy Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Analyze Uzbekistans economy - Term Paper Example Uzbekistan’s economy has been through its share of the initial down when it was formed. It relieved its independence in 1991, and since that time, Uzbekistan has undergone economic transformations to strive to become factor in the global economy. The collapse of the Soviet Union and the birth of Uzbekistan had left the country exposed because of the immeasurable downfall of the network of trade and suppliers. The country only had raw materials and semi processed goods available for exports, making them highly vulnerable to the world economy and thus creating a dependency on the world’s commodity prices. Uzbekistan at that time had to take drastic steps to induce polices and reforms that would influx market based aspects. However, the governance of Uzbekistan under Karimov had different set of economic ideas. He introduced policies that had the sole intention of creating control over the economy and these policies played no heed towards producing and implementing structu ral reforms. The economic liberation of the country in the beginning was very much controlled and the government was very cautious in its moves. The economic policies have somehow ensured a slow regression of privatization keeping more of government control in the state. The ineffectiveness of the economic forums brought the Uzbekistan’s economy as rendering and deterring factors for the foreign investments. The country then was too reluctant to listen to the economic advice on reforms by the World Bank, the IMF and various economic institutions. This led to abrupt increase in high levels of corruption and showcased the world about the extreme bureaucratic inefficiency to develop business initiatives. The core issue post independence was the soaring state control and authoritarian style of economic power. The following will shed more light on Uzbekistan’s post independence economic woes: ‘Privatization has been very slow and

On-Campus Living Requirements Personal Statement

On-Campus Living Requirements - Personal Statement Example The reasons accounted for this trend, tradition and/or practice is because studies have established that it promotes higher student retention rates (Garner 114). This is compared to students who live off-campus who according to the respondent from the interview exhibit higher dropout rates than those living on campus. There is a lot of research done by people in the field of higher education looking at the impact that living on campus has for students. It has been shown repeatedly that students on campus are more likely to have a higher GPA than the students who do not. They are more likely to stay at the institution and graduate than those students who do not live on campus. There are exceptions to the mandatory on-campus living requirements including if someone has ever served in the military and/or is of a certain age usually above 22 years of age. These individuals are allowed to live off-campus because they are deemed to possess the necessary and required skills and abilities to live alone. The insistence on having a mandatory on-campus living requirement is also based on the need for institutions of higher learning to raise funds. These funds are used to support other facilities and amenities in the universities other than the accommodation facilities (Kuh et al 16). On-campus living requirements are policies are supported and opposed in equal measure by both students and parents depending on the perspective one is looking at it from. On-campus living is one of those life stages where young adults get to leave their homes and start living on their own away from home. On-campus accommodation acts as a transition in the journey towards independence (Kwoka-Finning 148). Students in halls of residence learn and acquire essential life skills that help them maneuver out in the ‘real world’ when they leave these halls of residence.

Textual analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Textual analysis - Essay Example In identifying this problem one of the salient features that immediately must be considered is a condition that Lukacs refers to as reification. An elucidation of reification will reveal how the commodities structure penetrates and transforms all aspects of bourgeois society and indeed transforms thought within capitalist society. This transformation irrevocably limits the ability for philosophical inquiry and critical theory to function separately from societal forces and for Lukacs the inquiry itself "springs" directly from this now reified structure. The problem of commodities is one that was comprehensively outlined by Marx and is a fundamental theme in much of the subsequent Marxian analytical tradition. As products are bought and sold in the marketplace, they become commodities. These commodities are alienated from the laborer that was initially responsible for the creation of the product. Individuals who purchase or exchange these commodities are not directly aware of the laborer who produced this commodity, but instead place a value on the existence of the commodity so that it can be exchanged in the market without having to come into contact with the laborer. As a result this so-called exchange-value of a commodity commodifies the labor itself. The structure of commodification whether it applies to the product o... The problem with this structure is that necessarily conceals what it is supposed to reference, and hence is inherently duplicitous (Lukacs 83). This duplicity has economic consequences for the proletariat that Marx explicates elsewhere. For Lukacs, this structure serves as a "base" and a point of departure for the typical economic concerns that Vulgar Marxists are keen on parsing out. (84) Commodity fetishism, the term Marx uses for this obscuring of social relations has both a specific local context and as a more general application for Lukacs. The specific context deals with the commodity within the framework of the marketplace, and deals with the exploitation and alienation of the laborer. The general application asks the question, "how far is commodity exchange together with its structural consequences able to influence the total inner and outer life of society" (Lukacs 84). The answer as it turns out will be completely and totally. Yet, he is careful here, and in following Marx, recognizes that commodity-exchange is an "episodic" feature present in the history of mankind (Lukacs 85). That is, as the objective forms of bourgeois society are periodically instantiated, the role of commodities can operate as a non-dominant form of "metabolic" exchange. Its transformation or reification into the principle organizing structure of a thoroughly capitalist society is attr ibuted to the subjectivization of the commodities-structure where "man's activity becomes estranged from himself," and is possible when the marketplace is fully commodified (Lukacs 87). Though as Lukacs stresses, this reification manifests itself qualitatively

Learning Experiences Essay Example for Free

Learning Experiences Essay The value of education undoubtedly depends on the purpose behind it. Activities also give the child new abilities, and allow him/her to discover abilities never known to have existed before, or strengthen skills that naturally exist in any human being. When a child is born, the child learns by interacting with the world around him/her, and this is the foundation for building the child’s intellectually abilities as well as the child’s personality, emotionally and socially (Mahapatra, 2009). This paper focuses on the learning experiences that a child acquires from various activities, as dictated by the child’s age. In this study, there are 5 age groups that would be considered. The first stage is the stage of ‘younger babies, the ‘older babies,’ the ‘toddler stage,’ the ‘kindy stage,’ and the last stage, the ‘preschoolers. ’ In this paper, the researcher would like to discuss the teaching strategies to be used, including all the considerations to be involved when it comes to teaching organisation. Young babies †¢ Young babies are children whose age is categorized as babies who are of 6 months old from the time when they are born. †¢ During this stage, the baby shall learn basic activities such as learning to sit on his/her own and learning to explore the world using his/her hands. Other senses are also at play since the child is naturally curious about the world and will use his/her sense to learn. At this stage, babies tend to use their mouths as well to explore things, which is why it is important that they be given toys that are not hazardous and will not cause choking. Some toys have been specifically designed for a baby’s learning purpose and these toys are safe to be kept in the mouth. †¢ Activities that can benefit a child’s learning experience can be aided by toys. Learning resources can start with toys that can be placed in the child’s crib, such as colourful mobiles, as well as toys that can be squeezed, such as musical toys. Other toys can be toys that require the child to use his/her body muscles to push and pull, in order to stimulate the child’s grabbing and grasping skills (Henig, 2008). †¢ As a teacher, it is important that the child be given materials to encourage him/her to be aware of his/her senses, what they are for and how to use them. For instance, the child can be given a musical ball, which the child has to squeeze in order for sounds to be heard. †¢ The learning experience of the child can be evaluated by the kinds of toys that stimulates the child’s brain. For instance, the teacher or the caregiver can provide a variety of toys for the child to play with, and depending on what toy the child picks up the most, the teacher can decide what toy appeals more to the child. If the child picks up the musical toy more often, it means that the sound that the ball makes appeals to the child’s senses. Older Babies †¢ Older babies are approximately aged from 6 to 15 months. †¢ At this stage, babies are able to develop their problem solving skills as they continue learning about a variety of new objects. They are also more able to understand people, and at this stage, the child starts to constantly seek for independence, and they try to develop their own self-esteem. Toys are also more played with, since the child starts to learn how to play ‘properly. ’ For instance, when a child is given toy blocks, or toys such as Lego, the child is actually able to build ‘something’ out of these blocks. In addition to this, the child is also more curious, so providing the child with a play area complete with swings, slides and other play structures encourages active play. †¢ Activities that could be advised for a child of this stage could be providing a child with a puzzle to complete. The teacher could provide the child with a cardboard jigsaw puzzle where the child has to form the pieces together in order to make a picture. This activity helps stimulates mind activity in the child, while wooden puzzles also stimulate sensory discrimination as well as the development of the child’s eyes and hands. An environment such as a playground could give the child enough room to set up his/her own dramatic scene, along with his/her own playmates. The teacher can provide the child with materials such as costumes in order for the child to be more creative in role playing. †¢ The teacher’s responsibility at this point is just to observe the child’s activities and not to actually help the child to do the right thing. This way, the child can have more freedom to express himself/ herself. Toddlers †¢ Toddlers are aged from 15 to 36 months. †¢ At this stage, toddlers are fascinated by household objects, the different shapes of objects and their textures. It is also at this stage where the toddler’s motor skills develop at a fast rate, and this is the stage where the greatest changes in a child’s life and the child’s mind happens. Furthermore, the child is able to express himself/herself more (University of Georgia, 2007). †¢ For this stage, the teacher can coordinate an activity that allows the child to use his sense of sound better, while also developing the child’s creativity level at a faster rate. The teacher could create a fun experience for the toddler by allowing the child to use a variety of cooking utensils for the child to play with. Pots, pans, and cans can be used, and the child can be given wooden utensils so he/she can make a personalized instrument and bang the items together to make his/her own rhythm. A rhythm game can also be played where the teacher can play a certain rhythm and have the child copy it and repeat it accordingly (Tomlinson, 2008). †¢ This activity stimulates the child’s response to sounds, and the teacher can begin to teach the child new words such as ‘beat,’ or ‘drum,’ to talk about the activity itself, or the teacher can teach the child descriptive words to allow the child to express his/her feelings while performing the activity. At this stage, the teacher helps the child be more familiar with shapes, textures, smells and even taste. Kindy Stage †¢ This stage is concerned with kids who are aged approximately 36 to 52 months. †¢ This is the kindergarten stage, where the child has begun to talk, sing and dance. This is also the stage where the child is supposed to be taught how to read since the child can already understand some concepts about the world. Children at this stage may start to struggle at first with reading. Therefore it is advised that the teacher or the caregiver read to the child every day. This way, the child can begin to realize that reading is a fun activity, and the child is also able to use his/her imagination as the adult reads to him/her. †¢ Learning how to read starts with a child’s ears. An activity that a teacher can do for the child would be to read a story to the child and to ask the child questions regarding the story. For instance, after reading a story about animals, the teacher can use the help of pictures with animals on them, as well as cards containing the names of these animals. The child’s task is to attach each word card to the picture it corresponds with. †¢ This way, the child is able to be familiarize himself/herself with new vocabulary, new situations and experiences, and the child can even match what he/she learns from reading to what he/she sees, hears, touches, and taste in real life (Cooper Cooper, 2008). Preschoolers †¢ Preschoolers are from the age of 48 to 52 months old. †¢ At this stage, children can recall concepts easier, and also familiar words. They can also understand new words and new concepts better and can understand the meanings of basic words such as ‘over,’ and ‘under’ (Child Development Institute, LLC, 2008). When it comes to mathematical concepts such as addition and subtraction, there exists a pervasive relationship between a child’s understanding and the child’s procedural skills. Procedural knowledge refers to the child’s skills that are required in order to solve mathematical problems. †¢ For this stage, the teacher can do an activity by using materials such as marbles. The teacher can lay out the marbles on the ground and ask the child to count them. The teacher can then take away a number of these marbles and ask the child to count the marbles again. This way, the child can understand the meaning of subtraction, while the teacher can teach addition by adding more marbles to the pile and asking the student to count them. The teacher can first demonstrate how it is done first so that the child can easily follow. †¢ Such an activity helps the child to clearly understand the meaning of both addition and subtraction, as well as helping him/her to recite the numbers more often. This way, the child is also made familiar with more numbers. †¢ The teacher’s duty is to ensure that the child is able to count properly, as well as add properly and subtract properly. Previous stages allowed the child to have the freedom to perform in any way the child wants. At this age, however, the teacher should introduce the child to correct mathematical concepts so the child is able to retain in his/her mind such information (Geary et al. 2000) †¢ Such mathematical drills should be performed time and time again so that the child will not easily forget. The teacher can evaluate the child’s performance by repeating the exercise again and again, giving way for the child to make mistakes. For all the activities mentioned, it would help the teacher as well to use the reward system when a child performs well. This is especially advised for children who may be stubborn and require a little ‘pushing’ in order to perform accordingly or better. It must also be noted that children cannot be expected to learn quickly so the teacher must be patient and should help the child do so (Fendrich et al. 1993) References Child Development Institute, LLC. 2008. Mobile Phone Distribution Comparison: US and Myanmar

Mobile Phone Distribution Comparison: US and Myanmar INTRODUCTION It is not only the lives of individuals had been changed since the introduction of mobile phones, but also the future of the telecommunication sector. From a person informs his or her friends about changing in plans or dealing an international business with client or even a victim ask for help when something bad happens. Mobile phones are really important in today’s society. The boundaries of space, time and size had been narrowed down through the growth of the wireless communication sector. In the Americas region, there is a continuous growth and more than 50 percent of penetration rates in the South and Central America in mobile sector. While there are about 30 percent penetration rates in Peru, Honduras, Costa Rica, Bolivia and Nicaragua. On the other side, Argentina and Chile had 80 and 76 percent of penetration rates respectively. While in Asia-Pacific region, Myanmar and Kiribati had extremely low mobile phones penetration rate, which is 1 percent. In Taiwan, Singapore, Macao, Hong Kong and Australia, the penetration rate are 90 percent. There is average of 6.3 million new mobile subscribers in India every month in 2006. Moreover, 43 percent of Asia- Pacific mobile market is belongs to China with a penetration rates of 35 percent. The purpose of this paper is to find out why there is a big gap between the mobile network system of the United States and Myanmar. Myanmar was chosen because it has a very low mobile penetration level and Myanmar has only 9% out of 60 million people have mobile phones. This research question will emphasis on the distribution and segmentation of the medium in both United States and Myanmar, ownership, national regulatory structures, socio-economic origins and functions of mobile phones in today’s society. MAIN BODY DISTRIBUTION AND SEGMENTATION OF MOBILE NETWORK IN MYANMAR AND UNITES STATES Distribution of mobile network in Myanmar The telecommunications sector in Myanmar is under developed. Figure 2 shows that the mobile phone coverage serves just 10% of the population in Myanmar. There are more than 55,000 villages in Myanmar are still without mobile service. The government targets to reach 75 to 80 percent of mobile penetration in 2016. Figure 3 illustrates that only 0.8 per 100 habitants have a mobile phone subscription in Myanmar. Distribution of mobile network in United States While in United States, the biggest mobile network provider – Verizon had covers over 95% of the population by 4G LTE. Figure 4 illustrates the coverage of 4G LTE of Verizon in United States. There is a very big difference between the mobile network coverage of United States and Myanmar. Myanmar has a very low mobile phones penetration rates due to the poor mobile network coverage. Segmentation of mobile phones in Myanmar Nandar said that â€Å"two foreign firm Ooredoo and Telenor has tap in Myanmar has invested to improve their communication. While other country is enjoying the technology of cameras, trendiness and personalizing their own phone, Myanmar is still concern of their phone keyboard for Myanmar language.† Maierbrugger stated that Myanmar is still the stage to expand their mobile services. Based on the latest statistic, stated that only 5.4 million of Myanmar’s 60 million populations have cell phones. SIM cards used to be $160, but are now slowly being reduced with the help of foreign mobile companies. Segmentation of mobile phones in United States Based on comScore Networks research, their national panel survey concluded that there are three age-related segments. First is â€Å"The Cellular Generation†. They are aged from 18 to 24; this generation was born with mobile phone awareness, growing up with mobile phones. Second age-related segment is called â€Å"Transitioners†. They are mainly aged from 25 to 34 because this group falls into two particular segments which are those who grew up with mobile phone awareness and those who did not. Finally the third group is known as â€Å"Adult Adopters†. This group is aged 35 or older and they are not aware of phone until adulthood. They showed the least interest in emerging technologies. Figure above showing the result for cell phone attitudes by consumer segment for the year 2006. OWNERSHIP Ownership of mobile networks in Myanmar There are only two mobile network providers in Myanmar, they are the Myanma Posts and Telecommunications and Yatanarpon Teleport. â€Å"The Myanma Posts and Telecommunications (MPT), is the main provider of telecommunication services in Myanmar. MPT is operating under the Ministry of Communications, Posts and Telegraphs.† â€Å"In order to fulfil the demand for data communication services for the business and IT industry, Yatanarpon Teleport (YTP) was established in September 2002.† Song stated in International Business Times that â€Å"MPT and YTP only cover less than 10 percent of the network coverage in Myanmar. In June 2013, Qatars Ooredoo and Norway’s Telenor won contracts to develop the mobile network in the country†. Chun and Mahtani stated in the Wall Street Journal that â€Å"Ooredoo and Telenor will become the first foreign telecommunications operators in Myanmar. After decades of military rule in Myanmar, it welcomes the foreign investment to its once tightly controlled telecom sector by awarding the telecom licenses.† Ownership of mobile networks in United States While in United States, there are 14 mobile network providers. The four main providers are Verizon Wireless, ATT Mobility, Sprint Corporation and T-Mobile US. â€Å"Verizon Communications Inc., based in New York City was formed on June 30, 2000, with the merger of Bell Atlantic Corp. and GTE Corp.† â€Å"ATT Mobility is a wholly owned subsidiary of ATT Inc. ATT provides wireless services to 109.4 million subscribers in the United States.† â€Å"Sprint Corporation is a major global Internet carrier and also provides wireless service. SoftBank Corporation owned majority shares of the company.† â€Å"T-Mobile US, Inc. is an American wireless networks operator, headquartered in Bellevue, Washington. Deutsche Telekom AG maintains a 67% ownership of T-Mobile US, Inc. common stock.† NATIONAL REGULATORY STRUCTURES Spectrum scarcity is the main regulatory issue arising from the mobile network markets. Regulators have to allocate the spectrum rights with care to ensure the growth and efficiency in the market. The mobile network markets of United States and Myanmar are different as they have different number of operators and regulatory structures. National regulatory structures in Myanmar â€Å"The Telecoms Law in Myanmar stated that â€Å"access and interconnection provided by a licensee†¦ shall be on an equitable and non-discriminatory basis and shall not be of lower technical standard and quality than the technical standard or quality provided in the licensee’s own network facilities or network services†. The regulator have the power to negotiate interconnection with the licensees or even share the facilities that cannot be proficiently replicated. The interconnection agreement and the procedure for referring and resolving disagreement are being concluded when the draft regulations go on to specify period. However, it is unseen that how Myanmar practice these rules, but in writing Myanmar will have an international regime with other countries which are in best practice. The next concern is the public availability of licensing criteria. Myanmar had awarded two national mobile licences to Ooredoo and Telenor. The process was open and transparent with more than 90 bidders participating. In both the draft licensing guidelines and the law, the outline for the additional licences is clearly stated. The draft regulations had provided the licensing criteria, timeline and licence terms and it meet the requirements.† National regulatory structures in United States In United States, the mobile service started as a government-licensed duopoly with licenses extending over urban areas and later to rural service areas. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) achieved this by transferring the 115 MHz of spectrum into mobile uses. There are many operators owned the licenses but soon consolidation happened within the industry by mergers and acquisitions. FCC gives the permission to Fleet Call, a new company to penetrate the market by selling the special mobile radio licenses and convert them to cellular use in 1992, because Fleet Call offered to make better use of the spectrum. Then, an advance mobile communication- Personal Communications System (PCS) was invented. The licences for PCS con only be obtained through a government auction. SOCIO-ECONOMIC ORIGINS AND FUNCTIONS OF MEDIUM IN TODAY’S SOCIETY Socio Economic Origins in Myanmar Ever since Ooredoo and Telenor invested in Myanmar, there are numerous benefits which the country obtained. The overall economic effect of mobile sector in Myanmar is estimated to increase by 1.5-7.4 percent of gross domestic products (GDP) in the first 3 years after the licenses are issued. There will be an impact on the employment rate in Myanmar for mobile sector, estimated over 66,000 will be employed as full-time employees. Figure above explains both direct and indirect employment rate of mobile value chain. Productivity of workers increased for the past 3 years because of the effect of mobile communication. This is mainly caused by the information flow between seller and buyer, decrease in time for travelling, and the possibility to access in new areas in Myanmar. For example, agriculture sector, fisherman or farmers could quickly be notified about the price change in the market so that they could alter their plans. It is forecasted that Mobile Network Operator (MNO) gives various benefits to the supply side of economy in Myanmar via the direct impact of their outflow. As for the social impacts of mobile phone in Myanmar, the development of Myanmar’s community interpersonal and family communication will be improved. Moreover, isolated areas could be reached with the support of mobile phones. Hence isolation will be reduced. Socio Economic Origins in United States The mobile phone sector for United States brought a deep impact in the economy. Figure 6 shows that United States mobile phone industry has created 3.8 million directly and indirectly. An increment of 200,000 employments and this could conclude that an increase of 2.6% of all US employment. Furthermore, the phone industry with its direct and indirect workers has paid over $88.6 billion in taxes, as well as the federal, state and local fees. Moreover, mobile phone sector, it contributed $1.739 billion to US GDP from year 2011 to 2012. Moreover, an increase in government revenues as much $468 million and the employment rate also increased by 7,000. Figure 6 shows that the employment created by wireless industry in the United States in year 2011. Function of medium in today’s society The mobile phones clearly shows the priorities and values of our culture. Firstly, the mobile phones reveal the culture of constant communication. It is important for today’s society to stay connected with their family, friends and colleagues. People are able to call anyone with a mobile phone no matter where it is except for those areas that do not have mobile network coverage. Another concern of people purchase mobile phones is for safety reason. Mobile phones keep people feeling safe through being connected. Imagine someone stuck on a dark road with an empty gas tank or a flat tire and the person does not have a mobile phone to ask for help. The person might have wait for someone that pass by or start walking in the dark. Besides, this is a dangerous world, anything could happen. A mobile phone is needed for us to get help when we need it most. Another cultural priority of today’s society is reflected by the mobile phones, which is technology. We are living in a society that continuously searching for the â€Å"new and improved† technology. Mobile phones was very big and clunky objects that got very poor reception and not reliable. And now it transformed to a mobile phones that able to fit in our pocket and have many technological abilities that are important to todays society. After all, mobile phones are really extremely important in today’s society. CONCLUSION The purpose of this paper is to search for the reason why there is a big gap between the mobile network system of the United States and Myanmar. After the analysis, the main reason that the weak mobile network system in Myanmar is because of the military has the control of the whole telecommunications system. Myanmar did not open to other countries to invest in the telecommunications sector until 2013. However, the main concern of people getting a mobile phone is to look for safety, status, or service. Both United States and Myanmar need to invest in its infrastructure with proper regulatory measures to ensure they the people in the country could enjoy the best facilities.

Malaysia Fatal Road Accidents

Malaysia Fatal Road Accidents Introduction Background Latest accident data records, findings the fatal of road accident in Malaysia. The accident increase cause road death of it increase, it makes the tourist outsider afraid to drive and indirectly cause the negative effect in economy. The problem of deaths and injury as a result of road accidents is now acknowledged to be a global phenomenon with authorities in virtually all countries of the world concerned about the growth in the number of people killed and seriously injured on their roads. In recent years, the government of Malaysia has been one of the most fatal road accidents among the world. The main sources of data used for this study were United Nation Status Paper on Road Safety 2009, Malaysia and blog spot of Malaysia driving school. We study the fatal rate of road accident in Malaysia and national statistics published through online and other sources. We identify the research question in order to solve our management dilemma. That is â€Å"What are the causes of fatal road accidents in Malaysia?† Road safety considered as one of the social responsibilities of the Malaysian Government. In the sight of this responsibilities, various bodies concern about the road safety have been created within the government departments, voluntary organization and private agencies. http://www.unescap.org/ttdw/roadsafety/Reports2006/Malaysia_RSpaper.pdf Road death statistics in our country are at a very critical level. The number of road fatalities in our country has reached an â€Å"alarming† level, said Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) [director-general Prof Dr Ahmad FarhanSadullah] He was commenting on a report by the Paris-based International Transport Forum (ITF) which ranked Malaysia among 33 countries which had the highest road deaths at 23.8 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants last year. The accident increase cause road death of it increase, it makes the tourist outsider afraid to drive and indirectly cause the negative effect in economy. Habit such as failing to give the correct signals when turning, speaking on mobile phone when driving smoking are some of the reason.† by transport ministry parliamentary secretary Donald Lim Siang Chai http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=%2F2010%2F9%2F18%2Fnation%2F7061384sec=nation Expertise on relevant research ESCAPs mandate was broadened in 1977 by the General Assembly. The regional commissions have since then been the main UN economic and social development centres within the five different regions. The research comes with UN Status Paper on Road Safety 2009, Malaysia. TheUnited Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is the regional development arm of the United Nations for the Asia-Pacific region. With a membership of 62 Governments, 58 of which are in the region, and a geographical scope that stretches from Turkey in the west to the Pacific island nation of Kiribati in the east, and from the Russian Federation in the north to New Zealand in the south, ESCAP is the most comprehensive of the United Nations five regional commissions. It is also the largest United Nations body serving the Asia-Pacific region with over 600 staff. Established in 1947 with its headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand, ESCAP seeks to overcome some of the regions greatest challenges. It carries out work in the following areas: Macroeconomic Policy and Development Statistics Sub regional activities for development Trade and Investment Transport Environment and sustainable development Information and Communications Technology and Disaster Risk Reduction Social Development Research Problem/Dilemma The accident increase cause road death of it increase, it makes the tourist outsider afraid to drive and indirectly cause the negative effect in economy. From the data recorded road death per 100000 inhabitant Malaysia get 23.8 people of death rate compare to KOREA 12.0, US 11.1 UK 3.8.Road death statistic in our country is at very criteria level. Malaysia is one of the highest death rates on road accident among the world. Research Objective Objectives The objectives of this report overview the fatal road accident in Malaysia. As we know that the accidents rate in Malaysia are rising, in order to solve the problem, we had identify the factor had cause the road accident. Road accident can be cause by driver behavior, equipment failure, roadway design, and poor roadway maintenance. Road accident can be cause by driver behavior, equipment failure, roadway design, and poor roadway maintenance. The major common reason of causing road accident in Malaysia is the driver behavior. Example, drinking alcohol is one of the main causes road deaths in Malaysia. Driving alcohol affects the driving skills and the driver may become fuzzy after drinking so that they will not able to concentrate when they are driving. Speed kill is also a serious case probably will cause by the young generation because most of them are immature. For example, when a car cut into their road land or provoke them, they will try to against it. Poor road maintenance can be a problem causing the road accidents and is the responsibility of the local highway departments because when there was a faded road sign at crossroads, turning point or others, it may confuse the driver go into the wrong way. Uneven surface of the road will also be the problem causes accident. Car equipment failure will also cause the road accident. Some of the cars does not maintain or repair especially tires. The pattern of the tires is use to resistance sliding. If the tires is old or spoil, this easily make the car lost control. Therefore, engine and break system is also an important part for the car. By not taking care of engine will cause car explore and break down of breaking system. Road designs will cause accident when there is a big flow of car and cause many places traffic jam during holidays. Therefore, the driver which has cannot slowly to wait for it. They are trying to turn left and right to cross the car and it cause accident and made heavier jam for the road. The death rate per 10,000 vehicles was decrease from 4.18 to 3.55. And the death rate per 100,000 peoples was decrease from 23.73 to 23.83. Our group prepare power point slide to show that why there are a lot of accident causes in Malaysia, the reason is the driver, road, car and traffic problems. We analyze the cause of road accident show why driver, road, car and traffic problems causes accident. We also search and verify the information throughout literature review to prove the true to shows that accident causes a lot of life death in accident. We also collect data to verify the existing dilemma to shows how many people death in road accident. Literature Review Causes of accident in Malaysia 1.) Driver Driver is most causes of the accident, it because some driver who are tired, sleepy and feeling emotional should in fact not be driving at all. Its call Driver attitude. , drinking alcohol is one of the main causes road deaths in Malaysia. Driving alcohol affects the driving skills and the driver may become fuzzy after drinking so that they will not able to concentrate when they are driving. Speed kill is also a serious case probably will cause by the young generation because most of them are immature. Especially the person who drinking alcohol or taking drugs after, should not driving the car. Because when after drinking the alcohol or taking the drugs will feel unconscious, so in the way driving is very dangerous. Some of the driver turning a corner without giving the correct signal to mention the turning way, this may confused other driver suspicion is turning left or right. In this way, when other side car coming and does not know you want to turn, will causes the accident happen. The action when driver driving the car and pick up the call to speak and smoking is a big causes of accident. It is because when talking the phone or smoking, the driving concentration will switch to other action driver doing, so when not concentration driving may make mistake at the blind spot, the accident may happen easily. 2.) Road Not only the driver causes the accident, some of the accident is making by the road. It is because in Malaysia when you driving to anywhere sure can meet up some hold on the road, because the road long time using by the bigger lorry carrying with the heaver thing like container. So at the long time pass by on the road, the road will sink and become a hold. The government does not care about it the problem and when raining the water rush the soil under the road make the hold become bigger. When the night time, if the road got hold and does not put the signboard mention in front got a hold, driver did not know in front got a hold and may become high percent getting the accident. 3.) Car Condition of the car self also is a way cause of accident. When the car using a long period time, the part of the brakes, lights, signals lights, horn and other does not working well will make lose control. 4.) Traffic When come to the Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Deepavali, Christmas or some specially public holiday, we can see the traffic jam at anyway. This time all family want rush back to hometown meet up with their family and sharing the happiness, but at the same time driver starting cannot waiting for the long time in the traffic jam and try to left and right continually cutting the car, so easily get accident too. The Advantage Of Commercials :: essays research papers

The Advantage of Commercials It began in the early 1940's and to this day still is in many of our lives, even more so then before. It's the TV that I'm referring to. The TV started only as only musicals on it,. But eventually proceeded up to today's oriented world, with movies, sports, and violence. Today more than 98% of all households have a TV. Over 75,000,000 of TV sets are color. To how haw our lives depend on TV; according to A.C. Nielsen, America watches more than 7 hours per day. Many people say TV has many disadvantaged, like expensive commercials. For example, on 30 second commercials in the 1984 Super Bowl cost approximately 450,000 dollars. If you just look at the price it sounds costly, but in reality TV is one of the most cost-efficient media there is. Not only is cost an advantage of TV commercials, so are TV's impact credibility, selectivity, and flexibility. Television is powerful in may ways, mostly by having the ability to combine all major medial into one media called commercials. TV commercials are like direct mail because it comes directly to the consumer in his or her house. It is like the radio because TV has to have sound to make it powerful impact. It is also similar to print or newspapers because TV is able to show the product alone, in a setting, or in use. Finally, unlike any other advertising vehicle, TV can portray the object in motion while the other forms of media cannot. TV is believable mostly because of the old of "seeing is believing" an that is what TV does. Commercials have an unbelievable capacity to induce belief because of this old saying. The other major print that make TV commercial believable is that the actors make the commercials and A or the A+. What is meant by this is that when and actor uses a product on TV and has a satisfying look on his or her face, that's implying that the product is doing it's job effectively. Also the actors can demonstrate the product tooo The most common way to prove a product worthyness, is to test it against a well known competitor. All of these ways make TV commercials not only very believing, but also very persuading. The next quality that TV commercials have is that the commercials are selective. Commercials can reach any target audience. For example, if a commercial is toward children, the commercial will be played in between after school programs that the children like. If commercial is directed toward housewives, they will be played mostly during the midmorning and afternoon.

Barnes & Noble vs. Amazon.Com: Fought Since The Explosion

Barnes & Noble and Amazon. com had been in constant fight between each other since the explosion of online purchasing. Before the mid 1990’s online purchasing introduction, Barnes & Noble had big dominance in bookselling, as it was the largest bookstore in the world. With the entrance to the book market by Amazon. com, Barnes & Noble found a big competitor, as it represented a new and innovative way of purchasing a book. Making a financial analysis on both companies, we could notice certain differences that mark advantages for both sides. The financial study was done in a span of 4 years of operation for Barnes & Noble (1992-1996) and 6 years of operation for Amazon. com (1995-2001). Given numbers can be seen in Exhibit 1 and 2 for both companies. Now, with both financial reports, we can create many conclusions about both enterprises. First of all, we will talk about the increase in revenues that both experienced throughout their years. Barnes & Noble Amazon. com Now, taking in to consideration Barnes & Noble’s chart, we can see that there is a constant growth in revenues from year to year. The average growth from year to year was of 22. 52% in the four year analysis. This is an important factor as we can notice that the company’s sales were always increasing and that the growth rate would not fluctuate throughout the years. Regarding Amazon. com’s chart, we can see that there is a huge exponential growth. On the first years of operations, Amazon suffered of a big growth in sales, having almost 3000% more sales from 1995 to 1996. Now it is important to notice how the rate lowered throughout the years to reach a 31. 50% from 2000 to 2001. We can see a huge growth in the first years because Amazon. om was something new to people as online bookselling wasn’t that famous. As people settled to the idea and competitors like Barnes & Noble adjusted to this change, sales growth went down to a normal growth rate, which in average was stil l higher than that of Barnes & Noble. With the information, we can also see that Barnes & Noble achieved a higher net income than Amazon. com in the 1990’s. It is obvious that this was due to the fact that the first mentioned company had already been running for many years and that already had a fair amount of costumers, while Amazon. om was a new company trying to be known in the bookselling universe. The following charts show the information on net income for both companies in their respective periods. Barnes & Noble Amazon. com We can notice that even when both companies had years in which they suffered big losses in income, they achieved to finish the period with a positive net income. It is also interesting to see how both net incomes grow throughout their respective periods, being Amazon the company with the steadiest growth rate. What we can get from the net income analysis, is that even when Amazon had a slow start due to the introduction of a new purchasing method, wh ich almost always comes with some uncertainty from the customers, it has managed to increase its income throughout the years to the point in which it has catched up with Barnes & Noble, it’s main competitor. Now, in order to know how Amazon has achieved such a growth in net income throughout the years, we have to review the ratios as percentage of sales for both companies. Barnes & Noble Amazon. comWhen analyzing both charts, we have to take into consideration that both companies experienced a growth on net income. We can see that both cost structures are mostly similar, with the exception that Barnes & Noble has to deal with infrastructure depreciation. Now, leaving aside the cost structure, let’s pay close attention to the percentages throughout the years. Both companies experience a decrease on the percentages of sales on all their structure, which is really important when expecting an income growth, but it is really impressive how big is Amazon’s decrease.Th ey were able to mitigate every part of their cost structure in the analyzed period, which is reflected on the percentage of income out of sales that they have. Take for example the cost of sales. While Barnes & Noble managed to decrease that cost in only 1% from the first to the last analyzed year, Amazon was able to decrease it in almost 5%. Thus, income percentages are also very different, having Barnes & Noble with a 2% at the end of the period while Amazon had a big 7% at the end of the period. So, in conclusion we can see that the struggle between these two companies is still even and could balance to any side. Making a future prediction based on the numbers that were presented, we can assume that Barnes & Noble’s revenues will remain on the same growth rate throughout the years while Amazon’s will stabilize on a certain rate and continue on it. We can also see that Barnes & Noble can still change their cost structure, as Amazon did, in order to achieve much higher and more regular net incomes throughout the years. It isn’t very healthy for the company that one year they have a high net income and the next one is a big loss, as the operations are affected by it. Both financial structures will be affected by the advantages and disadvantages of online vs. traditional bookselling. In recent years, online selling has become more and more popular worldwide as people regard it as a faster, cheaper and easier way to buy the books they want. This could be reflected in higher revenues for companies such as Amazon. com and a net income decrease on the big bookstores such as Barnes & Nobles. Its hard to say if there will ever be any big race wars in America, because in like a shots modern world everything seems ok, just no one is ever very trustworthy what lies beneath the surface of case-by-case groups. There could be a considerable race war that skill proceed in the future, or everybody will in the end start to accept each other and we could live a beautiful existence. The quarrel that the United States faces with diversity is that everyone is diverse and the trust to be proud and arrangement there true diversity. The main problem with that is that nearly other cultures dont equip with them and they might want them to adjustment their ways, or leave. This has forever been a big altercate for the United States, because as time goes on we should be cheerful with diversity and evaluate it along with ours, but there always will be certain people out there that will never change and they will make sure that they are heard within any means necessary. On the other side there are many capital benefits that Untied States could benefit from with being such a diverse place. The detail that there are so many unalike views and opinions in America of the world just about them, they could never truly run out of ideas. So many cultures offer such good things to America and they will handle to keeping adding on to that list. In todays modern society certain individuals still feel the need for racial security and what that means is that someone might still feel more comfortable around their own frame. For guinea pig a white family starts to pack up out of their home and move away from a changing neighborhood. The family finds a place that is more suitable towards their own security which is an all white suburb. The parents are clueless an d confuse, because they never thought that it would happen in an all white neighborhood. straight off the point to that story is that in tell to foster a climate for betrothal we need to understand that not every other race is bad or will corrupt their race in fact if each race got unitedly and helped one another out with this kind of problem they could share their experiences and find a proper solution for the problem. The issue with racial profiling in the media is that the reader does not understand what is going on and assumes that a certain situation is a terminus of that entire race. A perfect example would be the 9/11 tragedy, because aft(prenominal) that the media and the people reading the media pretty much made it seem that the situation was a result of all Muslims, when in fact it was only a handful of people that had hateful opinions towards America. If everyone in America could understand the power that we have and this is not because we have missiles or a great army, instead it is because we have so many different cultures that bring many different things to our Nation. We would have the power of Americas spirit on our side and it would be hard to break the spirit and will power of that many different people.I am also one that unhappily shown my negativity towards another race at one time and it might of not been violent, because it was only in my head, but it goes to show that almost everyone in some way and another will or have experienced that and the best way to get well that barrio is to understand, research and understand another cultures meaning to behind what they do and then an coalescence with eac h other could happen and we could one day become brothers and sisters of the world again.

Petruchio the Sophist and Language as Creation in The Taming of the Shrew Essay

In the article, Tita French Baumlin shows how Petruchio uses oral communication and non brutality to tame Katarina. Petruchio excessively changes the fashion that people count on Katarina. This brings up the question if Katarina is rightfully tamed or if it is all however a front. I swear that Katarina learned how to disguise her feeling and solely changed the focus she speaks by mimicking her husband. Petruchio speaks eloquently and very distendly. When he is introduced he is already playing on word succession asking Grumio to knock on a furnish for him.Petruchio is a match for Katarina because of how good he is with talking to. He feces go toe to toe with her, inappropriate many of the people who have to deal with Katarina, because of this rhetorical skill, that most defines his character. Petruchio is overly someone who can reason or urge someone of something plainly through his language. For example, he easily makes Baptista believe that Katarina loves and want s to bond him quickly. He proves that the best way to battle and lash Katarinas stabbing tongue was to verbally date back with wit.Baumlin points out that Petruchio never hits Katarina to tame her though many other similar stories have the husbands thrashing their wives into submission. While Pertruchio hits Grumio and his other servants in front of Katarina, he never puts his hand on her. Even when he forces her not to eat or sleep Petruchio himself does not eat or drink when his wife is so deprived. Petruchio does not inflict pain on Katarina that he does not bear himself. He uses just now his language to change her shrewish behavior preferably of actual abuse.Katarina had been given a chance to not only change as a person for her own good, scarcely to also change the way other view her. Her family believes that no one go away want to marry her. Everyone in town believes she is sharp tongued and a shrew. Katarina has an anger problem perhaps because of the way her siste r is treated as unconnected to how she is by their father and other men in town. This anger has given her a very hazardous reputation. Petruchio comes and gives her the opportunity to change that. He starts by simply calling herKate and in that new name comes the possibilities of nice a new person. Baumlin infers that Petruchio seeks to shatter the Katherine persona. mayhap Katarina was also sick of people seeing she was this hateful shrew woman who would never make a man happy. It is hard to change the way a person behaves, which is why Katarina resists Petruchio at first save by the end of the play Katarina definitely as undergone some sort of change. She is no bulkyer slopped spirited and seems to obey her husband as well. Did Petruchio really tame Katarina?I believe that Petruchio taught Katarina how to use her words in a better way to shit what she wants. She didnt want to have to deal with Petruchios annoying taming techniques any much, so she changed the way she spok e to him to reconcile him. If Katarina had really been tamed, I do not sound off that she would have given the long speech at the end of the play. It would have been Petruchio to give the speech because he was the one who proved that he could tame Katarina. Instead, Katarina gives not only a long speech but one she knows would please her husband. She has learned to speech his elaborate fashion and she also mimics his absurd ways of address as she claims that the wifes hand must(prenominal) be underneath her husbands foot. This is also the first time that Katarina speaks for such a long time without Petruchio chiming in, which shows that she has learned how to keep him quiet sort of of it being the other way around. I think that Kate has figured out how to humor her husband and reduce conflict rather than allowing herself to be tamed. She uses her words to convince Petruchio and others of her taming but in the end she gets the husband that she wants. She also makes herself look l ike the wife than her much sought-after(a) after sister, Bianca. By the end of the play, Katarina has become a winner. Baumlin makes many good points on how Petruchios language is a major part of the play. It shows that Shakespeare creates witty characters for more than just a laugh, but also to indicate at what is going to happen in the play. Katarinas overall tone in the play changes as she learns how to create situation in her favor exploitation language as well. Katarina is still a shrew, just in disguise.

Company/ individual report on roles and responsibilities Essay

Company/ individual report on roles and responsibilities Essay

A leader is.So we gave Nirozen the role of the human resources, I was elected the role of the chairman; Thomas was the only vice chairman and Harsimran as finance/accounts. The role of the marketing was given to Eugene.Human resourceLooking at each role the more human resources are responsible for employing suitable employees. Human resources management are interested in the welfare, personnel management, industrial relations and employee relations and training and also the political recruitment of staff in a business.Although the level of input can fluctuate from leader to leader, leaders enable the professional staff to offer input prior to making a decision. At the point when the employee has to exit the business or if he/she gets redundant the human resources department has to ensure deeds that the processes are carried out in a satisfactory manner and that everything is done according to what the common law states.Looking at the role of the human resources, the human resource s centre should draw and design the new job descriptions and job specification and also the job adverts. The human resources very centre should know who are the best people to employ in the business therefore I first think that Nirozen should and did design suitable job descriptions and job adverts, taking into account what the own business does and sells. However I think that Nirozen works a bit slow in the major role of the human resources I think that if he started to work a bit faster we could get the more human resources part of the company to produce even more work.

Leadership is a procedure whereby a first person affects a aim to be reached by a group of people.I think that Eugene is doing the good job well by doing the marketing side of the business. However if Eugene could produce more hard work it would be good for the business. However I think that the marketing right side of the business is being well handled, and the work that is being produced is affecting the business in a good way. Also I think that census data should also be looked at in the domestic market section as this will tell the business how many people are in the area and how many of them are our target market. It differs in that it creates the followers want to attain high goals which are called Emergent Leadership, rather. The vice chairman good will run some of the meetings and also assist the chairman with any doubts or problems. try This will take some of the burden of my shoulder.ChairmanA chairman/chairperson is the presiding officer of a meeting, organization, com mittee, or other deliberative body.Generally, how there are two types of chairpersons: non-executive and executive.

Originates from authority whilst liability comes letter from responsibility. As I am the chairman, I have to organise and run the meetings. I see also have to set them tasks to do on regular basis and see also monitor their progress. I also have to help them when getting there are in need of assistance. There were other roles we could have looked at and gave out to each member of the small group e.Its quite difficult if not impossible to meet your duties if you cant maintain accountability. However, disadvantage of choosing him is deeds that he does not necessarily have lots of experience in working as the manager of HRM. Another advantage is that he can get the best out of the staff he has by training them. Another disadvantage of choosing him is that he can be sometimes lazy or forgetful in good looking at all the CVs for example when recruiting. Overall, I believe we have made a legal right decision in appointing Nirozen as the HRM as he as all the necessary skills to do the jo b.

Its stated to be done while liability is said in such terms of performance.Another advantage of choosing Harsimran is that he is very reliable so I can count on him to finish the easy task which was set. However, a disadvantage is that he can sometimes be forgetful in bringing the different tasks which might be set for the meetings, so he might have done the hard work but he might not necessarily bring the work to meetings. Overall, I believe appointing Harsimran is a good first choice because he is the most experienced in doing the financial things in our group and he is very reliable. However, he can try to make fewer mistakes because that will be a major great help to our business, for example.Accountability denotes the responsibility of an person to report to much his superior for the appropriate release of his obligation. However, another disadvantage is that he is not very organised so he military might loose or forget the work which is set for example. Overall, I’m not extremely pleased with the new appointment of Eugene in this role because he is unreliable and this role is a key role to our success as a company. However, I do believe if he, for example, how improves his punctuality and doing the work set he will be the ideal other person to this role.Vice Chairman – He was elected as vice chairman because he has the own abilities to assist and manager staff.

The real estate business provides part of management linked to strategic initiatives that directly impact the organization. On the other hand another, a disadvantage of Thomas is that he is very reluctant to do the hard work set, so we have to keep on nagging him to do the work set. Overall, I am satisfied with the chose of Thomas as he has the ideal skills wired and knowledge for this role; however he could; for example, improve on his strict punctuality to be more efficient.Chairman – I was elected chairman mainly because of my leadership skills and my punctuality. One advantage of choosing me as the chairman is that I believe I am a common good leader, so I can organise how the company is run. Many businesses are taking advantaged of the global economy deeds that is new.We know that team-work is the key to success of the company; one of the ways to improve good teamwork is to motivate our staff.Ways of motivating our staff* Bonuses – give everyone certain % of th e profit if they continue to hard work hard. This helps them motivated and to work harder to achieve the bonuses. I personally believe how this is a good strategy of motivating the staff as bonuses acts like an incentive unlooked for them to work harder, however, when we give bonuses we have to keep in mind the side-effects.

The very first thing management is run an audit.* Give praise – give praises if they how have done a good job. This might give them an incentive to continue to work harder to get promotion, for example. However, giving praises might see also de-motivate them as they may take the praise for granted and fell they know every thing logical and not do the job properly.* Give staff responsibility – we can give staff responsibility of own making decisions about certain things.Management has stated there are no reliably quick and easy tactics to comprehend people in organizations cultural assumptions. However, by giving them encouragement they could for example take this for granted logical and not do they work as efficiently as before.Team-workWe can use several strategies to improve how our team working. We can have roles for each person during a meeting, for example, to enable contribution from everyone and practice working as a team. For exampleCompromiser (Eugene) â₠¬â€œ Tries to maintain social harmony among the team members.

Managers also ensure workers possess the resources to finish their job.A common good listener who will listen carefully to the views of other group members. Good judge of people. Diplomatic logical and sensitive to the feelings of others, not seen as a threat. Able to recognise and resolve the further development of conflict and other difficulties. Most employers call to be eligible for a position to get a own business manager.Goes into detail about how group plans would work.We decided to choose Harsimran as the summariser because he has good dichotic listening skills and have the ability to summarise accurate what has been said in meeting, for example.Ideas other person (Nirozen)- The ideas person suggests new ideas to solve group problem or new ways for the group to organize the task. He dislikes orthodoxy and not too concerned with practicalities.

Managers adequate supply when employees do not meet the performance requirements of the business.Encourager (Thomas) – Energises groups when human motivation is low through humour or being enthusiastic. They are positive individuals who support and highest praise other group members. They may use humour to break tensions in the group. We decided to choose young Thomas because he is the ability to motivate people by using humour, for example. He gives shape to the team effort. He recognises the skills of the individuals and how they can be used. Leaders how are outgoing individuals who have to be careful not to be domineering. They can sometimes german steamroller the team but get results.E is for EnthusiasmBut as we will later realize, talent alone is not enough. A knowledgeable team member must also be enthusiastic.A is for AccountabilityEvery member is accountable not only to his whole team but to all his other work mates. We are not responsible only of ourselves.
